It's on the urban circuit of Baku that the fourth round of the 2018 Formula 1 World Championship takes place. The winds are blowing hard on this race day and could give the drivers a hard time. Baku, with more than two million inhabitants, is the largest city in the world that sits below sea level.

Sebastian Vettel, with his third pole position of the season, has a great start and manages to contain his opponents. In turn three, which is very tight, things get complicated. Raikkonen nips Ocon, who left him no space, and the Force India driver hits the wall, forced to retire while the Ferrari carries on. Sirotkin fighting in his Williams is cornered by a Renault and can't avoid Fernando Alonso. Debris litters the circuit in many places and the safety car comes on the track during the first lap of this race. Alonso, with two punctures on the right side of his car and Kimi Raikkonen with a damaged front wing, have to do pit stops. The Finn takes the opportunity to put the soft tires, giving him the possibility to go until the end.

The restart occurs on the sixth lap and Vettel keeps the first position. Ricciardo, lacking pace, is overtaken by an aggressive Verstappen and Sainz also goes for it, ending up between the two Red Bull. The Renault, on the ultrasoft, is in the mirrors of the young Dutchman and the fight remains clean. Renault is impressive and it is now Hulkenberg's turn to take a position on Ricciardo. Meanwhile, over the radio, Verstappen mentions that his battery is not charging and he is losing power. Sainz' team relays the message and he seizes the opportunity and overtakes Max.

On the 11th lap, Daniel Ricciardo approaches his teammate, clearly lacking power, and several drivers gather behind them. At the same time, a spectacular turn of events at Renault: Hulkenberg must retire after hitting the wall, possibly suffering a puncture. Ricciardo, also a victim of a battery recharge issue, continues to put pressure on his young teammate who resists; their cars are rubbing dangerously at turn 3.

Hamilton makes his stop on the 23rd lap and chooses the soft compound to try to go to the end of the race while Vettel stays on the track with his extra soft. On the 26th lap, Verstappen finds himself just behind Hamilton, slower with his soft tires, and Ricciardo takes the opportunity to come near his teammate and he is impatient. The spirits are warming up at Red Bull! The two are side by side several times but Verstappen resists and Ricciardo remains behind, ready to attack at the slightest mistake of his young teammate.

Meanwhile, Sebastian Vettel is sitting comfortably in first position and on the 31st lap, he stops to put on the ultrasoft; a totally different strategy from his teammate. Bottas inherits the lead, though having still not stopped.

On the 32nd lap, the Red Bull are in a hot fight for the fourth position. Both drivers without a pit stop, they're using the supersoft until its extreme limit. On the 34th lap, Max worries about the condition of his tires and mentions to his team being unable to keep them at the right temperature. Ricciardo takes advantage of it and easily passes a Verstappen that seems to have fallen asleep. Daniel stops on the 38th lap and Max does the same on the 39th, both putting on the ultrasoft. Verstappen comes back on track in front of his teammate and everything has to be done again for Ricciardo. Bottas is definitely the champion of tire economy this weekend, the only one who still has not stopped with a little more than ten laps to go!

On the 40th lap, Ricciardo uses the DRS to overtake his teammate. At full speed, he miscalculates Verstappen's trajectory changes and hits him from behind, both losing control of their cars. It's too much for technical director Adrian Newey. He leaves the command post in the pit lane and returns, disgusted, to the garage.

The safety car is deployed for the second time and this is the unexpected opportunity that Bottas was waiting for to stop and put on the ultrasoft. He is legitimately leading the race and takes a serious look at the win. Romain Grosjean, busy to keep his tires warm, loses control of his car and hits the wall on his left, ruining his race. Not only is it rather humiliating but it lengthens the intervention of the safety car; a towtruck having to come lift his car in addition to more debris being widespread on the track. For the drivers, with a few laps to go, they are dealing with cold tires and sticky brakes; the end of the race is looking tricky!

On the 48th lap, with four to go, the safety car exits and Valteri Bottas skillfully manages the restart. Vettel, in a desperate attempt to take the lead, takes a chance on the inside of the first turn, locks his wheels and overshoots the left turn. Hamilton and Raikkonen jump on the opportunity to overtake him and the German driver is now 4th. "Good things come to those who wait": an expression that Vettel has obviously forgotten when he made this rash decision.

On the 49th lap, everything collapses for Bottas. Victim of a right rear puncture on a track filled with tiny pieces of carbon fiber, his race ends in a heartbreaking way. Hamilton takes the lead and Raikkonen is now second, while Vettel suffering from a severe flat spot is overtaken by Perez for third.

Hamilton, with lady luck in his back pocket, finishes first while Raikkonen and Perez complete the podium. The Mercedes primary takes the lead of the Drivers' Championship while Kimi Raikkonen raises the mercury on Vettel for the second spot.

An exciting Spanish Grand Prix is waiting for us in two weeks!

The Shanghai International Circuit is hosting the third round of the Formula 1 WorldChampionship this weekend. Designed by German designer Hermann Tilke, it is characterizedby several short, straight lines and tight turns.

The sun shines on this racing day, with a track 25 degrees warmer than the qualifyingsession. Sebastian Vettel, on the pole again, applies pressure to his team-mate pushingoutwards to the right in the 1st turn, allowing Valteri Bottas to take the second position. Sliding,Iceman sees Max Verstappen take away the third position; a disappointing start for the Finnishdriver. The top drivers remain steady in their positions while Renault and Haas provideexcitement until the first pit stops.

In the 18th lap, Redbull chooses the medium tires for both cars during back to back pitstops. Following the stops of the Mercedes team, Ferrari brings in Vettel who returns on trackbehind Bottas; an unforgivable miscalculation. Kimi Raikkonen, who has the reputation of beingan expert in tire economy, remains on the track. Could it be that he stays on track to slow downBottas, allowing his teammate to catch up? The Mercedes driver managed to overtake hiscompatriot in the 27th lap and Vettel follows.

In the 30th lap, Pierre Gasly dives into the entrance of turn 14 and harpoons histeammate, Hartley. The amount of debris scattered on the track leads to the safety cardeployment. Redbull immediately gets its two drivers into the pit, both putting the ultra-soft, adecision that will change the face of the race.

We have waving green flags in the 35th lap, just over 20 laps from the end and the realrace begins. Ricciardo gets impatient being slowed behind the ferrari of Kimi and with his ultrasoftseasily overtakes him. His next target is Lewis Hamilton, who he passes in the 40th lap.Verstappen, on the same tires as his teammate, overtakes Hamilton in the 42nd lap and the Britfumes, blaming his team for not having planned a change of tires during the safety car.Ricciardo goes at a tremendous pace and overtakes Vettel with absolute ease. Verstappen, notwanting to be outdone, goes for a doubtful maneuver on Vettel in turn 14 and harpoons him. Both spin round and to avoid a collision, Hamilton goes to the left, leaving the door open forRaikkonen on the right to takes the third position. The impetuous Dutchman gets a ten secondpenalty but the damage is done: Vettel loses his pace, several places and valuable points in thestandings. In the 45th lap, Ricciardo goes for the maneuver of the day and takes the lead in frontof Bottas by completing the diving inside turn at 14. The Australian driver has just made aserious claim for the Driver of the Day title! In the 47th lap, Verstappen approaches Hamiltonwho lets him pass, knowing full well that the Redbull driver will be penalized by 10 seconds onhis final result.

Bottas, Raikkonen and Verstappen are brilliant at the end of the race. Kimi says he islosing traction as soon as he approaches the Mercedes driver, but he still manages to containthe Redbull driver, which is not easy to hold back.

Ricciardo wins an unexpected victory ahead of Valteri Bottas and Kimi Raikkonen.Hamilton is fourth and Vettel finishes eighth.

We have two weeks to catch our breath before the Azerbaijan Grand Prix!

It's on the circuit of Sakhir, the second longest in the Championship afterSpa-Francorchamps, that the second round of the Formula 1 world Championship 2018takes place. Located in the middle of the desert, an adhesive coat is sprayed beside thecircuit to avoid sand deposits on the track. The extreme desert heat makes for a nightrace and a unique track surface with exceptional traction properties.Sebastian Vettel, at his 200th career Grand Prix, starts from the pole, beside histeammate Kimi Raikkonen and in front of the Mercedes's driver Valteri Bottas. LewisHamilton, with a five grid penalty for gear box change on his Mercedes W09, falls toninth place on the grid.

Kimi Raikkonen has a poor launch, allowing his fellow countryman Valteri Bottasto steal the second position. The drivers are trying to take advantage of every overtakeopportunity and Verstappen, true to his habits, dives onto turn 1 to attack LewisHamilton, comes in contact with the Britain's car and takes damage. The Dutch losesspeed rapidly, having a left tire's puncture from the hit. Added misfortune for RedBull,Ricciardo sees his electrical system giving up, ending the team's hopes. Faces are long inthe RedBull's garage. Verstappen reaches the pits but his day ends shortly after.Hamilton, on the hunt, passes the rest of the mid pack all at once; gaining threepositions and finds himself fourth after reeling in Pierre Gasly's Honda Toro Rossa a fewlaps later.

First pit stop occurs on the 12th lap for those who have chosen a two stopstrategy and some drivers even are choosing the medium tires hoping to go until theend. Vettel chooses the soft tires on the 18th lap, leaving a glimpse of a one stopstrategy.

We see many great fights between the middle pack teams. Magnussen at Haas,Alonson with McLaren and Hulkenberg at Renault are exchanging positions on the trackwith bold overtakes. In the night lights, the sparks coming from the back cars isn't onlyfrom their undercarriages.

Kimi Raikkonen makes his second pit stop on the 36th lap and it's a disaster.Released too early by his team due to a systems error and problematic wheel nut, hehits a crew member and is being asked to stop in the pit lane by the team. The Finn isfurious and throws his water bottle while entering the garage. It's the second event in asmany races happening in the pit lane. We can bet that discussions are already takingplace about a regulation modification.

In the meantime, Vettel must choose a one stop strategy, the gap with Bottasbeing way too short to come back in front of the Mercedes driver. Hamilton, experiencing radio malfunction gets impatient, unable to communicate with the team.On the other hand, Bottas is getting closer to the Ferrari's driver and is only 1.5second behind him with four laps to go. Vettel, the magician, shows us his talent and hisperfect control of the car. With tires meant to roll 10 laps less, he holds on and wins hissecond Grand Prix of the season, in front of Valteri Bottas and Lewis Hamilton. Gasly, stunning with his Toro Rosso, finishes fourth.

This second round confirms how the middle teams are competitive. McLaren andHaas, both with new motor providers this year, will certainly be seeking to putthemselves at the top of the bottom in the next races.

Let's meet next week in China!

The nightmare continues for Vettel

Japanese Grand Prix

We are back to the great circus of Formula 1 this weekend on the Suzuka circuit in Japan for the 16 th stage of the 2017 Formula One World Championship. Suzuka, one of the driver's favourite circuits, is characterized by its rolling terrains, only one DRS zone and its figure eight configuration. The first corner, very fast, leaves ample room for overtaking from the start of the event.

On the starting grid, the mechanics are busy on Vettel's car, causing concern among Japanese Ferrari fans. In addition, Valteri Bottas and Kimi Raikkonen were penalized five grid positions, both for gearbox change. The top 10 on the grid starts in super soft while the middle grid drivers opt instead for the soft; pit stop strategies seem to indicate a single stop for the majority.

As soon as the reds go out, Hamilton quickly takes the lead and we see a clean start from the drivers. Carlos Sainz, in his last race for Toro Rosso, loses control and gets stuck in the gravel. Verstappen, continuing to build on his success from the Malaysian Grand Prix, quickly passes Vettel and takes the second position. Raikkonen, who comes up quickly from 10th position, collides with Hulkenberg, causing him to lose several positions. On the second lap, the safety car is deployed, the marshals being unable to move Sainz's car.

The race restarts on the fourth lap and Vettel seems to struggle, several cars passing him without even using the DRS. He enters the pit and his race is over, a simple little spark plug shocking his chances of another driver's Championship. His teammate, who fell in 16th position after his collision on the first lap, comes back fast to reach the leaders, a glimmer of hope among the tifosi.

We see the first pit stop on the 23rd lap. Bottas delays his pit stop and slows Hamilton's pace, allowing Verstappen to be within a second from him. Hamilton reacts quickly by radio and Bottas has to let him past, concurrently restricting the Red Bull driver; a well-oiled teamwork at Mercedes. On the 33rd lap we see a great fight between two generations of Formula 1; Alonso and Stroll aiming both for the 14th position. The battle is won in the pits; Alonso coming back in front of Stroll following the rookie's pit stop. The Force India drivers are on their side fighting for a position, and Perez asks permission to pass his teammate Ocon. The no is categorical from the team, exhausted of having to manage the dubious behaviour on the track of their fiery drivers.

Near the end of the race, Hamilton complains of a vibration and slows his pace considerably, allowing the Red Bull drivers to come closer and also Bottas to put some pressure on Ricciardo. Is it strategy from Hamilton to allow his teammate to overtake the Australian driver?

Hamilton wins his eighth victory of the season and gives himself a 59-point lead over Sebastian Vettel. Verstappen and Ricciardo finish second and third, respectively.

Ferrari must recover quickly, with Vettel's drivers' Championship now almost certainly out of reach. In addition, they also have to watch Bottas blowing in the neck of the German driver with only 13 points behind for the second place. Ferrari's quality department, assigned fresh blood earlier this month by the team president, Sergio Marchionne, will have a lot to do to restore the Scuderia's image and reputation until the end of the season.

Next race in Austin, Texas in two weeks!

A historical win for Verstappen

Malaysian Grand Prix

The 15th stage of this 2017 Formula 1 World Championship takes place in Malaysia, near the Kuala Lumpur airport, on the Sepang circuit. For the last time, the drivers will be able to enjoy this very wide circuit with its high -speed corners and its two long straights, perfectly suited for the use of the drag reduction system (DRS). Indeed, the Malaysian government has decided to cancel the Formula 1 race on this circuit, because it is not profitable.

Vettel, unable to set a time in qualifying because of engine problems, starts from the last position on the grid, not ideal when you're in a fight for the drivers' Championship. His opponent Hamilton takes the start in the pole position while Kimi Raikkonen aims to take the lead of the race starting from the second position. Spectacular turn of event prior to the warm up lap: Iceman has to go back to his garage, also a victim of engine issues. Clearly, the stars are aligned for the Britain driver.

When the red lights go off, Hamilton has a brilliant start but the talented Verstappen will not be bowed, fighting hard with Valteri Bottas to keep the second position. In the middle of the pack, Ocon hits Felipe Massa, allowing Lance Stroll to take the 8th position. On his side, Vetttel goes up to the 12th spot after only two laps. On the4th lap, Verstappen takes advantage of the draft to overtake Hamilton and the lead of the race, opening a comfortable gap rapidly. Bottas and Ricciardo show us a b a clean fight, racing side by side and linking turns without any collision. Ricciardo wins the fight and earns the third spot. Vettel, still hunting, is now at the 6th position and in Bottas's mirrors.

The pit stops starts on the 27th lap where a majority of drivers, who started on extra soft, put on the soft. Vettel, starting under penalty had the option of tires and selected the soft tires to start; and now with the extra soft tires on his pit stop he shoots a fast lap when he returns, allowing him to be in front of Bottas. Vettel is coming back like a rocket on Ricciardo and on the 46th lap; he is in the DRS zone at less than one second from the Australian driver. However, in the heat and under high downforce conditions, the Ferrari's front tires deteriorate quickly and Vettel watches Ricciardo slowly escape.

Verstappen offers himself a victory for his 20th birthday under the emotional watch of his family and becomes the final winner in the history of the Malaysian Grand Prix. Hamilton finishes second while the other Redbull driver takes the third position.

Vettel was able to control the bleeding this week-end but Ferrari must be questioning their work and finding answers if they want to keep the second place in the Constructor Championship because right now, they must really think that Red Bull gives you wings!

See you next week-end in Japan on the Suzuka circuit!

A serious take on the title

Singapore Grand Prix

The Singapore Grand Prix takes place this week-end on an urban circuit, featuring a distinctive night racealongside the marina bay. The lights of the city reflecting on the Singapore straightaway makes this race one of themost eye-catching of the season. Sebastian Vettel has a great chance to take the Championship lead starting fromthe pole position, while his opponent Lewis Hamilton will start from the fifth position. The falling rain at the beginningof the evening will certainly spice up this 14th stage of the season.

When the red lights go off, cars are rolling and Kimi Raikkonen takes the hole shot with an extreme push upto the left edge, while Vettel veers left to squeeze Verstappen out before the entry to the first corner. But, in a repeatof Belgium 2016, Vers tappen refuses to yield an unwinnable situation, and hits Kimi, which spins the Ferrari into theback tire of Vettel. The German continues and Raikkonen, continuing out of control, hits Verstappen again who thenbounces off Alonso. What a tragedy for Raikkonen and Vettel who were first and second after the start on a trackwhere passing the leaders is unlikely. Vettel makes it only a short distance down the track before lack of waterpressure ends his run. And who do you think takes the lead after those cars retired? A blessed Lewis Hamilton whos urely can't believe his luck.

The safety car is on the track and Alsonso pits to change his tires. His team tells him that Honda no longerhas communication with the power unit and he will be on his own for the rest of the race . Perhaps, Hamilton isn't theonly one blessed tonight... but alas by the 9th lap the electrical problems are too much and Alonso heads for thelounge, not having raced long enough to need a shower.

Those unexpected withdrawals allow us to see some great battles in the middle of the pack. Kvyat,Magnussen and Stroll are fighting for the 10th pos ition and the Toro Ros s o driver is doing great … until he hits thewall and brings another safety car into the race. Most of the drivers take this opportunity to ma ke a pit stop and put ona new set of intermediate tires. Hamilton stays on the track and questions the team decision but continues tocumulate fastest laps.

On the 25th lap, Magnussen is the first driver to try the ultra soft tires while Ricciardo chooses the extra soft.On the 38th lap, the safety car comes on the track for the third time of this race when Erickson hits the wall and losesa lot of pieces on the track, complicating the mars hal's tas k in the rainy torch lit night.

On lap 41, the counter switches to a countdown clock and there are 30 minutes left! Hamilton handily beats the field to the finish line on lap 58 and takes a serious step towards the Championship title; Bottas finishes secondand Ricciardo third.

How to explain Vettel's reckles s ness at the start while he was in a perfect position to win this race andretake the Championship lead? Unlike his previous titles where he had no competition, he has this time to deal with alot of pressure. Who will win the War of nerves?

Next race in two weeks in Malaysia, at the Sepang circuit!

Hamilton cruzes to the Championship lead

Italian Grand Prix

The 13th round of the 2017 Formula 1 World championship brings us to the Monza legendary circuit in Italy. After a rainy qualification that shook up the usual order, we hope for an exciting race under a radiant sun. Lance Stroll surprises everyone, qualifying second after both Red Bull cars are assessed starting grid penalties for non-token upgrades, Stroll rolls forward to the front of the race beside pole sitter Lewis Hamilton. The Britain has a slow start but no one takes advantage of the situation, and Stroll rapidly falls back through the pack. Both Ferraris have a beautiful start with Kimi Raikkonen rapidly overtaking his fellow countryman Bottas, who is able to take his pos ition back. On the third lap, Verstappen tries to make a pass on Massa but the space is not quite there, leading to a lateral contact between the two cars. The young Dutchman has to pit, victim of a right front tire puncture. He eventually finishes 10th.

By the 10th lap, Kimi Raikkonen complains about loss of downforce and instability on the rear of his car. His engineers can't see anything on the telemetry, but Vettel reports the same issue later on. Both Ferraris will never be a threat in this Italian race finishing more than 30 seconds behind the winner at the end.

The pit stops sequence starts on the 16th lap and the teams seem disorganised, most of them losing precious seconds. In Lance Stroll's case, he comes back on track behind Raikkonen, after having fought hard to contain the Finn since the start of the race. Ricciardo give us a driving lesson: starting from the 16 th position, he make an awesome 2,2 seconds pit stop, coming back on track at the 5th position with the super soft tires, ready to chase for the podium.

We have a hot struggle between Ocon, Stroll and Massa. The Brazilian driver doesn't seem to try to overtake his teammate and Stroll his driving pretty conservatively behind Ocon.

Lewis Hamilton wins the Italian Grand Prix and takes a three points lead over Sebastian Vettel, who finishes third, on the Driver's Championship. Valteri Bottas goes in between the two leaders and finishes in second position.

Rumors are building up concerning a divorce between McLaren and Honda. Would Alonso be a perfect replacement for Massa at Williams? The Spanish's experience would certainly be an asset for the young Stroll.

Next we meet in two weeks for the magnificent night race in Singapore.

Hamilton holds back Vettel in Spa

Belgium Grand Prix

The Spa Francorchamps circuit in Belgium is hosting the 12th stage of the 2017 Formula 1 World Championship. Located in the Belgian Ardennes countryside, in the middle of a hilly landscape, it is one of the drivers' favorite and the second fastest of the season. The 7 kilometer track is renowned for its difficult weather but the conditions seem to be favorable this year, setting the table for an ultrafast race.

The first 14 drivers start on ultrasoft tires, hinting at early stops. Hamilton and Vettel have a great start, shooting away from the other drivers. Almost everyone remains cautiously in their place but the Force India drivers spice up the start of the race in their own way; Perez hits Ocon, who hits the wall to his right, lucky to get away without damage. The 40 000 Verstappen's fans see their hope collapse on the 8th lap; the young driver, born in Belgium, suffers a loss of power of his engine and abandons the car on the track. Kimi Raikkonen gets a ten-second penalty for not reducing his speed under the yellow flag; he is forced to stop for the penalty, ruining his race.

We see the first pit stops on the 10th lap and teams seem to have chosen a one stop strategy; most of the drivers leaving the pits with the soft tires. Both Mercedes stop quickly with Ferrari preferring to drive a few extra laps, hoping that Vettel will be able to pass Lewis Hamilton after his return to track. The plan is not working but Vettel is still pushing hard.

On the 29th lap, Force India finishes the dish they prepared earlier. Perez makes a pass on Ocon, who fights to regain his position. Perez refuses to leave him the necessary space and Ocon hits Perez's right rear tire and the debris from the front spoiler brings the safety car on track. Hamilton disagrees with the race director's decision over the radio and says he did not notice any debris. Guess he will rethink his opinion when he sees the review.

Vettel sticks to Hamilton but in a great example of his driving skills, the Mercedes's driver holds the faster Ferrari back. Bottas finds himself in a slowing car and Raikkonen tries a pass, but Ricciardo surprises everyone and comes up between the two others and seizes third position. At the end of a great driving day, Hamilton wins the race and narrows the gap to 7 points with Sebastian Vettel in the drivers' Championship. Vettel finishes a close second with Daniel Ricciardo following up in an unexpected third position.

Tifosi will be boosted with a Ferrari leading the Championship into Monza next week!

The return of teams orders

Hungarian Grand Prix

It's under a blazing sun that the 11th Grand Prix of the season takes place on the Hongaroring circuit, nicknamed « Monaco without the buildings» because of its many tight turns.

We see an exciting start, all drivers wanting to lead the race after the first turn. The impetuous Verstappen, who looks to have room for a pass, hits his teammate Ricciardo who loses control of his car. The following drivers then react incredibly, avoiding the out of control Red Bull. The safety car is on track during the first lap, the first time in the history of the Hungarian Grand Prix. Ricciardo, forced to retire, is furious at his teammate`s move; Verstappen gets a ten second penalty. Is it the end of a well-balanced relationship between Verstappen and Ricciardo?

Ferraris, at more than one second in front of the Mercedes, seem to rule the circuit. Kimi Raikkonen, with a tremendous pace, prevents Vettel from distancing himself. At the 25th lap, Vettel experiences steering problems, his car pulling to the left and the steering wheel aligned a quarter turn to the side. The German is forced to slow down; letting his teammate come within one second freeing Raikkonnen to take advantage, in the DRS zone. The Finnish driver gets impatient, the slower pace of his teammate allowing the Mercedes back in the race.

The pit stop sequence starts at the 30th lap, Vettel first, and Raikkonen the next lap. The Finnish is just behind Vettel when he returns on track. Iceman wanted to stay longer on track and he's not shy to say so to his team. He asks permission to overtake his teammate and doesn't receive an answer. Mercedes cars, still on the Finnish side view mirrors, decides on a different strategy; Bottas lets Hamilton overtake him, Mercedes hoping the British driver will be able to pass Raikkonen and then take the lead of the race. The Finnish says to his team: « You are putting me under the threats of Mercedes for no reason»; again he will not receive an answer from his team.

After a long fight, Hamilton is unable to overtake Raikkonnen and is obligated by team orders to give back his place to Bottas. Ferrari is lucky; Vettel finishes first, Raikkonen second and Bottas completes the race in third position.

In a surprise turn Alonso finishes 6th, giving us a taste of a potential McLaren Honda success.

It is time for summer vacations in the Formula 1 circus; let's hope that Ferrari will take advantage of that time to offer a new contract to Kimi Raikkonnen who showed them extraordinary loyalty since the beginning of the season.

Let's meet august 27th, in Belgium!

Hamilton owns Silverstone

British Grand Prix

It was on the legendary Silverstone circuit in England, where Gilles Villeneuve made his debut 40 years ago, that the 10th stage of the Formula 1 World Championship took place; the mid-season of a war between Ferrari and Mercedes.

After a delayed grid, the result of a mechanical break on Jolyon Palmer's Renault, the race finally started. Lewis Hamilton had an average start but still took the lead, leaving Kimi Raikkonen in his wake. For his part, Max Verstappen seized the opportunity and took the third position from Sebastian Vettel.

Again Carlos Sainz and Daniil Kvyat livened up the show, with Kvyat crashing Sainz while trying to regain the asphalt after losing control, bringing the safety car on track in the second lap. The restart goes off without a hitch and the steward's decision means the Russian driver gets a drive through penalty after taking the track in a reckless manner.

Vettel and Verstappen met again a few laps later and the German driver encountered stubborn resistance to his efforts to earn the position. Verstappen showed his exceptional talent and the crowd loved the fight. However, the fight was slowing both drivers so, on the 19th lap, Ferrari made the decision to change the strategy, bringing Vettel in early. The bet seemed to pay off. Vettel returned to the track unimpeded and proceeded to gain time on Verstappen, who, after his pit stop, emerged behind Vettel.

The rest of the race was business as usual with Hamilton running circles around most of the field, until Kimi Raikkonen, running 2nd during the 50th lap, suffered a delaminated left front tire, leaving him no choice but to return to the pits on tatters. Convinced of losing his second position, the Finn offers us again a jewel of radio communication with his team. In the 51th lap (the last lap because of the aborted grid), Vettel found himself in the same mess at the same corner, and finished the race with the floor of his car on the track.

The Mercedes drivers finished 1st and 2nd and Kimi took 3rd while Sebastian Vettel must be disappointed with the 7th position but remains one point ahead of Lewis in the drivers' Championship.

The fight continues in two weeks in Hungary, before the Grand Prix summer break.

Siglo de Oro

2017 Spanish Grand Prix

The fifth stage of the Formula 1 World Championship took place in the warm sunshine of Spain and we were again treated to a great race featuring a fantastic duel between Sebastian Vettel and Lewis Hamilton.

At the start, Vettel's car won the drag race, allowing him to take the lead from the Mercedes pole sitter, Hamilton.  The Ferrari team chose to stop first on the 14th  lap, while Mercedes waited double that and went with a short run on the mediums. Perhaps this made the difference. Following their second wave of pit stops (36 Hamilton/37 Vettel), #5 regained the track to find #44 hot on his heels. With nearly an incident, the final fight was on.  In the 44th lap, Ferrari's medium tires can't hold back the Mercedes on softs any longer and Hamilton takes the lead. He quickly stretches it outside the DRS time, leading to his third victory of the season and coming within six points of Championship leader Sebastien Vettel.

Behind the leaders, Raikkonen, Bottas and Verstappen entered the first corner three wide. Bottas was the first to brake and appeared to yield the lane to Raikkonen. Bottas was not giving up so easily and contact between the Ferrari and Mercedes resulted in Raikkonen launching across the nose of Verstappen's Red Bull. Both were forced to retire, victims of suspension breakage. Bottas continued his race until his engine failed on the 39th lap.

Daniel Ricciardo arrives more than a half minute later in his RedBull to round out the podium and the list of drivers who finished on the lead lap

The Sahara Force India team is opening many eyes at the beginning of this season. With a P4 and P5 finish by Perez and Ocon, SFI takes fourth place in the Manufacturers' Championship; Red Bull had better be watching their rear view mirrors from now on.

Our next start is in two weeks, in the Principality of Monaco.

First victory for Bottas

The 4th stage of the Formula one world Championship took place in Sochi this weekend amidst the majestic vistas of the Greater Caucasus.

Bottas and Vettel offered us a masterful battle at the start and once again the Mercedes driver demonstrated all his talent and a good deal of resolve in winning the fight.

Right in the first lap, a contact between Romain Grosjean and Jolyon Palmer demanded the presence of the safety car. Unfortunately, it was one of the rare highlights of this rather bland Grand Prix.

As of the 11th lap, Hamilton report that his car is overheating. Victim of a cooling problem, he will keep the 4th position throughout; surviving the race but unable to fight for the lead.

The strategy of a single stop is confirmed on the 27th lap with the arrival in the pits of most drivers. Cementing the board, the positions will mostly remain unchanged thereafter.

Bottas, probably anticipating his first career victory, made a potentially serious mistake in the 39th lap, flatspotting his front left tire entering a corner over speed. This allowed Vettel an opening to make a comeback. A fight took shape for the top of the podium, with Vettel taking advantage of fresher tires.

The lapped cars proved to be the wild card against Ferrari's push. Notably, Massa momentarily forgot the meaning of the blue flag.

Bottas celebrated his first career victory, a relief after the Bahrein setbacks. The Ferraris of Vettel and Raikkonen rounded out the podium. We find Canada's driver with a personal victory; Lance Stroll finishing the first Grand Prix of his young career.
